1. What are the product lines?

The Piedra Wall Cladding Stones are also commonly known as "manufactured, decorative, cultured" stone veneer products or PWC Stones as it will be called hence after, are the newest stone veneer profiles available from Piedra Systems Incorporated. There are several profiles or designs in various colors. The product represents years of continuous innovation, research and development as well as technical milestones in manufacturing, production and coloration. They are available through our distributors in the U.S. and in Japan. Currently, the company is seeking other prospective distributors or resellers to make the product more available to all parts of the world.

2. How is PWC Stones made?

a. Natural stones are individually chosen for uniqueness.
b. Molds are crafted to replicate every textural detail.
c. Natural color hues are formulated using color fast pigments.
d. Colors are painstakingly hand applied to the molds.
e. Stones are cast, unmolded and carefully packaged.

3. What are the benefits of using a manufactured stone?

The installed cost is 1/3 to 1/2 less than natural stone, it is lightweight, and requires no footings, wall ties or foundations. It has a 2% waste factor vs. 10% or more for natural stone.

4. Does PWC Stones meet ASTM requirements?

Piedra Systems Incorporated warrants its products are tested in accordance to American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) under:
I. ASTM 140 - Sampling & Testing of Concrete Masonry
II. ASTM C 1195 - Standard Test Method for Absorption of Architectural Cast Stones
III. ASTM C 55 - Standard Specification for Concrete Bricks

5. How much does PWC Stones weigh?

Depending on the design or profile, PWC Stones weigh approximately 40 kilograms per square meter (5 lbs. per square foot). It is truly a lightweight product.

6. Will PWC Stones fade?

Color fast pigments and stains are applied and absorbed by the stone when it is cast, thus the color becomes an integral part of the stone. The base color is blended throughout and the mortar can be colored to match as well. There are no noticeable changes in the color after years of weathering.

7. How fast can it be installed? What coverage can be expected?

This will vary depending upon the stone type used, type wall surface where it will be installed, skill and number of installers and other factors. But on a flat wall surface, a coverage of anywhere from 10 to 30 square meters (100-300 square feet) can easily be installed in one day.

8. Are there any water issues?

PWC Stones requires the same flashing and water proofing as stucco. (This includes the use of a weep screed.) It is not recommended for use below the water line in a pool or fountain. A quality Silane or Siloxane based penetrating breathable sealer is recommended on planters and baselines subject to splashing to help prevent staining.
Note: A sealer will affect the stone color and may create sheen, so always test a small area beforehand.

9. Is PWC Stones combustible?

No. It can be used on outer fireplace facings and walls behind or near stoves.


10. Can PWC Stones be installed on any surface?

It can be applied to any structurally sound surface and is installed directly to clean (unpainted and untreated) brick, block or concrete.

11. Can repairs be made at the jobsite?

Minor repairs can be made in the field by using a cement/oxide mix or by replacing individual stones.
